It has truly been an amazing 9 months! In this short time, we have witnessed the birth of not only the beautiful Hearts Afire program, but we have also been witnesses to the joy of Christ inflaming hearts and spreading like wildfire! There is no doubt that this fire is the result of the Holy Spirit, and His beautiful spouse, Our Blessed Mother!
Hearts Afire Parish-based Programs was created in response to Blessed John Paul II's call for the Church to embrace a New Evangelization, and a New Evangelization involves a new outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Like the original disciples, we too rely on the power and grace of the Holy Spirit for our efforts. Pope Benedict XVI emphasized this mission during his Apostolic Journey to the United States in 2008 when he called for “a new Pentecost for the Church in America” during his homily at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York.
Knowing we can only share what we have received, we invite you to join us in a novena to the Holy Spirit asking Him to shower each of us with His gifts. We also humbly ask you to pray especially for Fr. Michael Gaitley during this novena. Father is on "vacation" until June 1 finishing his third book, which is the basis of Part 2 of the Hearts Afire Parish-based Programs for the New Evangelization: Wisdom and Works of Mercy. Pray that the Spirit is generously poured out upon him as he labors in the vineyard, and that the Spirit continues to permeate the hearts of those who are blessed to read the fruits of his labor and experience the group retreats that result from it.
As we have seen multiple times through our retreats and readings, there are more God-incidences (or Mary-incidences) than there are coincidences. Something tells me that beginning a novena to the Holy Spirit to ask boldly for the gifts we need to be witnesses for Christ to ignite a passion for the New Evangelization on the birthday of Blessed John Paul II and the feast day of Blessed Stanislaus Papczinski, founder of the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception, is one of those God-incidences! So, we begin Friday, May 18, and invite you to join us!
